Susan Norrie’s Dissent
Our collaboration with Australian artist, Susan Norrie, dates back to 2011 with Transit which was commissioned for the Yokohama Trienniale and recently purchased by the MCA and Tate Modern in London. Her work intersects global environment politics with our relationship to the natural and human constructed environment.
Dissent, (2012) was a work in response to to Japanese Tsunami and consequent Meltdown of the Fukushima Nuclear plant. It was commissioned for the Sydney Biennale.
Anti nuclear protests were being staged regularly outside the Japanese parliament and Susan translated the protest in a way that captured the energy and mood of the event. We decided on a method of running the subtitle translations in a layered loop that allowed many voices at the same time. It was cut using FCP7 and finished as a pro-res file.
In 2014, we worked with her for her Montreal Biennale ‘Rules of Play’. A highly evocative piece that centred around the LNG plants on Sakhalin Island. We are also supporting her with her current project.
